It was the summer of 1985 I think when the film was released in London. As a Bowie fan I went see the movie and it was a brilliant one. It should have received better credit than it did. Brings back lovely momories of the care-free days of beinig a student. The song is flawless in terms of arrangment and lyrics. "Absolute beginners", it's the coolest name for the coolest song. Bowie rules!!!

@LeCutter - True legends don't die. So he can't die. Though I was under the impression that The Thin White Duke was a persona he created and it stuck. Much like he created Ziggy Stardust and it stuck for awhile. Then again I believe he's no duke. He's a prince. Like Hamlet there's method to his madness :) and it's genius. I don't know anyone who just likes Bowie. He's one only a few hate too. A very few.

1986...this song brings back such good memories... impressive how Bowie adapts to each decade, always impeccable.

One of the most amazing things about Bowie's catalogue of music is how it's progressed organically over the years. From teen angst and rebellion to a - albeit underrated - song like this which is a much more mature love song. And it's all done without cliche, and beautifully honest. Not even mentioning you can still tell he has a great time doing it.

Oh and I wouldn't be too hard on the crowd. You can see people bopping around in their seats and such. I've been fortunate enough to attend several of these smaller type venues with big names and you're generally told from the get-go that they're recording it and they don't want you up and going nuts or you'll be ejected. And it's just a different vibe from a large rock concert, this is more about music appreciation than getting gassed and screaming your head off.

@NolitaDenise Well they don't call him the Thin White Duke for nothing. He IS rock'n'roll aristocracy without the pompousness. He is a pure original, and I think we can all be grateful that we were priviliedged to grow up with him and his music. I like to think that people will be thiking of Bowie in a few centuries from now that people think of Mozart now. I truly believe the music will very much outlast the man
